Malmesbury at a glance

The historic town of Malmesbury is situated in the heart of Swartland, in the Western Cape. Framed by scenic settings of mountains and wheat fields - it is widely renowned for its cultivation of wine, grain, and its agricultural industry and is also the largest town in the Swartland region.

Originally, Malmesbury attracted settlers due to a tepid sulfur chloride mineral spring that was said to cure rheumatism; resulting in many finally inhabiting the area. Following this, in 1703, the first farmlands were assigned and the Dutch Reformed congregation (the fifth oldest congregation in the country) named the area Zwartlands. More than a century later, in 1829, Malmesbury was officially given its name in honour of Sir Lowry Cole's father-in-law, the Earl of Malmesbury.

Malmesbury is located a convenient 40min drive away from Cape Town and 30min away from most Cape West Coast villages. Thus, offering residents all the comforts and amenities of a big city within a natural and rural setting. The tranquillity of the town and its surrounding, coupled with its attractive position makes Malmesbury a very appealing option for prospective home-buyers.

Malmesbury Property Market

The Malmesbury property market is booming, with plenty of buyers relocating from Cape Town seeking a family lifestyle and country ambiance while being in commuting distance from the city. In conjunction with its proximity, Malmesbury offers a clean and safe environment - which also makes this town a popular weekend-getaway destination. These conveniences have caused a substantial increase in the demand for residential property in the town, specifically in the R1.2 million to R2 million price range.

Buyers are also attracted to this area due to the abundant economic opportunities on offer, which makes Malmesbury a perfect permanent base for those involved in various industries such as agriculture.
