Strand at a glance

Seated on the shores of False Bay, Cape Town, is the resonant coastal town of Strand, nestled between the cool Atlantic Ocean and the towering Hottentots Holland Mountain range. It is just 40-minutes from Cape Town, halfway between the towns of Macassar and Gordon’s Bay, and 32-minutes away from the Cape Town International Airport.

Founded in 1714, the recorded history of Strand began around 200 years ago, having started out as a holiday and fishing resort, which today it has retained owing to its exotic and warm white sandy beach that stretches out 5 kms. However, alongside this, the town has undergone rapid urbanisation and is the location of some of the most opulent homes in South Africa. 

Attractions

Strand Beach 

Many people move into the area to live overlooking the Strand Beach, defined by long-stretches of white sands and blue waters. Residents and tourists flock here to swim, sunbathe and immerse themselves in a selection of high adrenaline marine sports. The beach's very own entertainment area comprises of a put-put course, swimming pool, waterslide and a tidal pool for the more daring. Novice surfers also come here to practice the sport on gentle waves, conducted by the Strand Surf School. For those who prefer overlooking the beach, instead of immersed in it, some of Cape Town’s best restaurants, bars, cafes and coffee shops lie along the promenade, making for an ideal location for sundowners or delicious meals at any time of day.  

Strand Waterworld

In keeping with the water theme, Waterworld Strand is a key attraction in the area, welcoming droves of people throughout the summer and spring months. It is set amid one of the most picturesque locations, overlooking Strand Beach and nestled between a lush forested nooks. It's a place for both adults and children to immerse themselves, and offers a kids’ waterslide, adventure play section, shaded Jacuzzi, coffee shops and picnic spots with umbrellas for shade.  

Strand Golf Club

Opened in 1994 and hailed as the newest and most exciting addition to the regions golfing culture, is the Strand golf club. Boasting an 18-hole Champion, par 72 course, nestled between the Hottentots-Holland Mountain Range, the club is surrounded by the Mother City’s natural beauty. Facilities on the golf club include; a halfway house, upstairs lounge with a bar, terrace and a downstairs bar. 

Table Mountain 

One of the Seven Wonders of the World, is seated just 60km from Strand. The world renowned Table Mountain opened in 1929, and today it has evolved into the main attractions in South Africa. Over 16 million people have taken a trip to the mountain, many of whom include famous names such as; Oprah Winfrey, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Brook Shields. The landmark offers the best views in the mother, especially from the Table Mountain Cableway. The cableway enables visitors to travel up to the mountain and overlook the city, Robben Island and the Peninsula. Once atop, you can indulge in a self-service restaurant that seats over 120 people, sip on some of the finest cocktails at the Cable Way Cocktail Bar or simply just enjoy the splendid views.
